In the News | Artist Collaboration Announcement
Madame Macabre’s House of Curiosities is thrilled to announce a new creative alliance with renowned bone artists Ann Curtis and Derek Weaver of Curious Oddities of Skin and Bone, known collectively as Ann & Derek (DNA).
Traveling coast to coast for over four decades, Ann Curtis and Derek Weaver have built a formidable legacy selling their arts and crafts through galleries, Renaissance Faires, and—most recently—the Oddities and Curiosities Expos, where their burgeoning bone art continues to captivate collectors, curators, and fellow artisans alike.
Veterans of the Renaissance circuit for many years, Ann and Derek are celebrated for their uncompromising craftsmanship and unmistakably primal aesthetic. Their artistic evolution was fueled by years of creating one-of-a-kind lifecastings from clients’ faces, hands, and entire bodies. Transitioning into working with bones proved to be a revolutionary step into an entirely new venue of expression. Encouraged by a fellow artist to begin creating “mashups,” DNA shifted their work into the realm of fantasy sculpture—an artistic pivot that caused their work to explode onto the scene.
DNA is renowned for their richly adorned bone crowns, snake vertebrae hoop earrings, and vintage and Victorian bone-framed mashups, each piece balancing raw natural form with refined historical influence. Their body of work also includes primal bone jewelry, shadowbox-framed “Jeweled Cicadas,” and necklaces and exotic hairpieces crafted with horned creatures from lands found only in dreams—works that blur the line between adornment, artifact, and devotional object.
We are honored to offer a seasonal selection of Ann & Derek’s collections at Madame Macabre’s booth, where their work will be available for purchase at the following festivals:
-
Scarborough Renaissance Festival
-
Colorado Renaissance Festival
-
Texas Renaissance Festival
This collaboration brings together shared values of ethical sourcing, reverence for natural remains, and a deep love for the strange, the ancient, and the beautifully macabre. We invite you to experience the union of visionary artists whose work transforms bone, shadow, and history into wearable myth.
